Nest Wise Project: Riverside Bike House

Nest Wise Properties took on an exciting refurbishment project in Afan Valley, South Wales.

Nest Wise Property, based in South Wales, transformed an outdated property and turned it into a modern, luxury holiday let that sleeps up to 5 adults. The property is located near spectacular countryside and world famous mountain bike trails, which have been named as one of the top 10 places to ‘ride before you die’ in the world.

The Nest Wise team decided to take on this project as they believed that in this popular area there was good investment potential in buying properties for tourism and using them as holiday lets. This particular property, which Nest Wise no longer own, was perfectly quirky to stand out on Air BnB and other letting websites.

Nest Wise worked on the project for 10 weeks. While the shape and sizes of the rooms were a challenge for ensuring the potential of the building was maximised, the team absolutely loved this project. It has been one of Nest Wise favourites and the feedback they receive has been fantastic. The team did an impressive job in creating a great look for the target market and some of the handmade elements really make it stand out.

Director, Sean Forsey, discusses the project in more detail: The target market was outdoor adventure seekers, primarily mountain bikers. The whole team had great input into the key elements of the project. The client demographic is mostly male mountain bikers with a higher disposable income, being white collar workers from the South East. We put in a long workstation with USB ports and Super-Fast Fibre so that people could tap into work on a laptop if necessary.

We installed a 120 Cinema Screen and projector allowing Sky to be played on the big screen when getting back in after a long day on the bike. We created an indoor secure bike storage room with CCTV, as some of these bikes can be worth in excess of £10k.’

We made the furniture robust to cope with 5 lads using it at once and not having to worry. We gave it an industrial look with sockets and switches, which actually made it easier for the electrician and smarter than just seeing white trunking. We fitted a new Matt Black kitchen which looks fantastic with all integrated appliances to make stays there easier for any user. We also installed a laundry room for people to wash down muddy clothing instead of taking them back home. The bunk beds were great - being handmade they were designed to hold adults which allowed for more occupancy and with their own charging sockets, lighting and shelves they look the part as well.

Some of the design elements like the wall graphics and the bike frame really make the property stand out too as well as the bold colours. As an investment property the other key asset is the lack of external maintenance required. It also has a great balcony and terrace overlooking the river, great for lazing with a few beers when back from the trails.
